It boggles my mind what some people think is ok to do on our roads. Last week I was on Sunrise Highway heading home after my shift when I come upon a woman in an Explorer cruising down the road with a mattress tied to her roof. The worst part. She’s in the left lane! Doing 45-50 MPH. Everyone was honking at her and going around as did I. I looked at her and saw she was white knuckling it and doing everything she could to ignore everyone else. First if you have something tied to your roof make sure it is firmly fastened AND stay the hell off the highway, but if you absolutely must, stay in the right lane and put on your flashers. Also for the love of God when you realize you’re wrong alter your position in the road. I as others were not going to stay behind the flapping mattress. Especially on a bike.
The attached video is of a similar situation where a guy with a poorly secured item on his boat is in the left lane. What happens should have never happened. Please watch out for each other out there and use your brain.
Dashcam video captured a motorcycle rider taking a terrifying tumble after hitting an unsecured load that fell from a boat being towed on Interstate 94 In Minnesota.
